Whoops! All Kenney!
(left click to mine, right click to place the character you need to defend, r to restart the level)
unlike my past jam entries, I decided not to let this one (friday night -> sunday night) ruin my body. so I took breaks throughout and even watched a movie. I figured since the assets were premade (which was our shared theme), It'd leave me a little more time to relax.
what I ended up with was an unfinished, unbalanced mess. you can either understand and be able to execute everything and lose, but also not know how the characters move and win.
I, however, am still really fond of the idea: some sort of mixture between what did I do to deserve this, my lord's base building and kind of a puzzle focus.
needed more complexity (more player characters and enemy types, more ways to make the game harder but also easier to understand, etc.)
I feel like this one may warrant a revisit someday... I really like the food chain thing, and how my weird, broken implementation of breadth first search kind of makes the enemies look like they're exploring the base- I think it would have been cool if they all followed their own path etc etc
(my pal wyvex), whom I made headbangerz with, made a highly polished and great looking but shittily playing match-3 autorunner (kind of like a broken audiosurf?), which to me just goes to show how great a mixture of strengths and weaknesses we have :)
...(i wonder what happens if you kill the enemy that's holding the character you place but haven't killed all the others... i guess that's why there's a restart button)
